Combe HouseGittisham, Honiton, Exeter |
Condé Nast Johansen National Award Winner 2010 ‘Most Excellent Innovation in Sustainable Hospitality’. Combe House Devon is a privately-run Grade 1 Elizabethan Manor, situated in one of the finest settings in the UK with stunning views where Arabian horses and pheasants roam freely. Combe House lies hidden at the end of a long winding drive that leads to the thatched cottages of Gittisham - a time warp once described by HRH Prince Charles as the “ideal Englisdh country village” - this is Devon at its best, with the coast and moors not far away. Ken & Ruth Hunt have always been strong supporters of rural industries, purchasing local produce whenever possible. Their two Masterchefs of Great Britain, Hadleigh Barrett and Stuart Brown, weave their culinary magic, drawing ingredients from Combe’s large restored Victorian kitchen gardens. They talk “food metres” rather than “kilometres”. Visitors always most welcome for coffee, lunch, tea or dinner. Open every day of the week. They can enjoy Combe’s memorable dining experience, which starts with drinks and canapés on the croquet lawn on warmer days or by the huge log fire in the Great Hall when it’s chilly outdoors.
