Sfuso Wine Ltd is a Hackney based company that imports wine and olive oil from some pretty remarkable sources. It was founded on the belief that wine should be a force for good throughout all stages of its production. Their main focus is on sourcing organic and natural wines from independent vineyards and constantly renewing their wine list
whilst helping those who work at the source grow and flourish . They are currently working with a Sicilian coop that is at the forefront of ‘Addio Pizzo’, an anti-mafia movement who refuse to pay any money to protection rackets. This same coop is in the process of creating an renewed eco-system around its olives, vines, flowers, fruit and almonds. This means their products are entirely guided by nature at their source. The wines and oil are then filled at source by young workers employed through a local charity that helps disadvantaged young people from Palermo find work.
The packaging used is light ‘Bag in Box’ cartons which are made in the same part of Sicily. These are then sent over to the UK by train to further reduce CO2 emissions. By eliminating glass bottles from their packaging, Sfuso wine guarantee a vast reduction in weight and waste (about 70%) while saving clients money; the same wine bottled would cost over twice as much. Sfuso wine mainly supply London restaurants and bars, all of whom share their ethical vision.
