awardsTo reward the best of the best, the genuine creme de la creme, we launched the Sustainable Restaurant Awards in 2011.

Now in their fourth year, the awards have grown year on year. From an intimate gathering for 30 in The Cinnamon Club library room, via the OXO Tower and last year’s generous hosts Roast, where 150 guests enjoyed a feast of the finest Scottish fayre, we are now set to almost double the size of the event.

We are looking forward to hosting our biggest and best awards event yet on Monday 23 February. Oval Space, one of London’s most innovative and green event spaces, in Bethnal Green, will play host to 250 guests. Two years ago lunch was prepared by three of SRA President Raymond Blanc’s protegees, and, as mentioned previously, Scotland was the food focus at this year’s awards.

‘The Future of Food’ will be the theme for the 2015 awards. A group of young chefs will prepare lunch under the watchful eye of three giants of the industry all with a big stake in the future – we’ll reveal these names shortly. To complete the Future of Food theme, and to exploit the extra space of the venue, we will be showcasing some of the most forward-thinking, state of the art food and hospitality-related businesses in the UK – demonstrating their latest innovations and inventions.

As has always been the case, the vast majority of the awards will honour our Members who achieve the best scores in our rating; proof positive that they really are the best in the industry. And, just as our Membership has grown, matched by the scale of the event, so the overall standard has improved too. We’d like to think that the awards play a significant part in our drive to raise standards across hospitality.

There are three other awards which are open categories not based on the rating: the SRA Award for Innovation, the award for Best Food Waste Strategy and, excitingly, a new award – the People’s Favourite Sustainable Restaurant. The latter will be run with our new media partner, The Independent on Sunday. This award will be open to non-SRA Members too, so you’ll have to be on your mettle!

SRA President Raymond Blanc will again be presenting the awards and we are also extremely grateful to our headline sponsor Unilever Food Solutions who have supported us since the inaugural awards.

And one of the best things about having a bigger venue is that more of you can join us on the biggest day in our calendar. We’ll be in touch with more details about tickets very soon and your Account Manager will contact you about the special open awards in the near future.
